It appears that the new Government havent made up their mind yet where Inland Fisheries are going to end up so we dont know which Minister or Minister of State will be in charge. Hopefully we will soon know. Couldnt be worse than last Minister who was of the opinion that the Board of Inland fisheries Ireland should NOT officially include representatives of the main stakeholders - anglers. In the event 5 anglers did get on and they are all game anglers.

Well John, is this implying that the board of IFI will change? Will the incoming Minister be willing to appoint a new board or will he not bother and stick with the existing one? Should we be prepared to lobby the incoming Minister all over again to get more coarse representation??

I dont think they will change any IFI board members at the moment. The Act does provide that a couple have to stand down after 3 and after 4 years. I could see changes then. That said, I think Eanon Gilmore did say a few months ago that all recent Fianna Fail appointees would be unappointed. Maybe just election talk.
I think it is under review at the moment where inland fisheries will end up. I was just wondering which Minister angling organisations would be dealing with. The last few were dire. The last good Inland Fisheries Minister was Eamon Gilmore who really did take a very active interest. It was him who set up the Dublin Angling Initiative which has been great.

The Dept of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources looks after Inland Fisheries. The Minister is Pat Rabbitte and Minister of State is Fergus O`Dowd.
Usually the Minister of State looks after Inland Fisheries. I am hearing that this time Pat Rabbitte wants to look after us. The Angling Council of Ireland will soon be seeking a meeting with him to discuss a multitude of issues

Below is a direct link to the Inland Fisheries section of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

There's nothing really new on it!
