The 2010 Fisheries Act set up Inland Fisheries Ireland. It also allowed for the establishment of a National Inland Fisheries Forum to advise Inland Fisheries Ireland. This advisory group will have 60, yes 60 members drawn from a very wide cross section of stakeholders who range from anglers to farmers, local authorities, salmon netsmen etc. It is thought that the Forum may meet a couple of times a year and it may set up committees.
I have grave doubts as to whether such a large group of competing interests will agree on much. Even if they do agree on some policy there is no onus on Inland Fisheries Ireland to take on any recommendations.
There are advertisments in todays papers inviting interested people to apply. There is no remuneration or expense allowance.
