We want to hold a Kingspan National Pike Championships Qualifier there. This will be a shore competition. It was suggested that we ferry competitors out to an island to fish from the island.
Is there an angler friendly pub or hotel nearby where we can check in and calculate results ?

Hi all,
There is drurys pub in Monasteraden which is the closest pub to the lake. This pub has given us great support from the day we started the fishing club. Also there is a b&b in Gurteen which would be the nearest village in the area about 2.5 miles. Then as mentioned there is the hotel in Ballaghadereen there are also b&b s in Boyle about 4 miles away. If you were thinking of organising this event Lough gara & district angling club will fully support you. Any help you need just let us know. If you want to have a look around the lake we can arrange to bring you out and show you around. Also if it is an island competition we can provide some boats
Just one thing to keep in mind there are other clubs in the area who have fixed dates on the lake for competitions, I can pass you on a copy of all competition dates for the year on the lake.
You can email us on loughgaraanglingclub@hotmail.com
Would love to see an event like this on the lake

Just heard today that the hotel in Ballaghadereen is closed down. But between Boyle Ballaghadereen and Gurteen there are a range of b&bs to stay in no more than 15mins from lough Gara. For more info please let me know.

Really sorry to hear that the Abbeyfield has had to close. Sign of the hard times we are going through.
