An Inland Fisheries Ireland member of staff will soon be elected to the Board of IFI. Five names are in the ring. Three are from the Shannon area and 2 from the West. Union activist Marcus (cant remember his surname) is regarded as the clear favourite. The election is run on the PR basis and I believe that Marcus should be the early leader. I am told that he may struggle to get good transfers from those who are eliminated and may possibly be pipped on the last count though his lead on the first count may be enough for him to hold on. All 5 have been all over the country trying to get as many of the 400 or so votes as they can. From what I hear one candidate has been canvassing night and day and could spring a surprise when the votes are counted on Tuesday night - Dermot Brohan

Exciting count !
Union activist Marcus McMahon did get the most first preference votes but when lower placed candidates were eliminated it was a tie between Marcus and Sean Cody (think) with each stuck on 114 votes. Under PR voting in the event of a tie at the final stage the candidate who got the most first preference votes gets elected. Accordingly Marcus McMahon is the staff representative on the Board of Inland Fisheries Ireland
