59 anglers turned up today and caught 20 pike to 9 lbs. Some of the roads around the venue had black ice in many places. There was a hill everyone had to go down just before you arrive at the river and it was the scene of several accidents. Four Lurgan guys with a jeep and boat in tow were the first have trouble. Their motor was thought to be a complete write off. A little while Big Pat was going down the hill in the IFPACMOBILE when it went out of control and bumped the ditch several times before it came to a stop facing the wrong way. Other cars had near misses.
There was plenty of ice all along the margins and water temperature was really cold. Fishing was very slow all day.
Debbie did manage to get samples from 5 pike.
We were very happy to get back to Lynchs Bar on the Cootehill/Ballybay Road. Lynchs looked after us really well. They laid on huge quantities of tasty sandwiches and countless bowls of really good soup.
The top 5 anglers were
1st Denis Coyne (Tullamore) 3 pike 16-00
2nd Sam Lawlor (Belfast) 1 pike 9-00
3rd Gerry Keenan (Ardee) 2 pike 8-04
4th Paul Dennis (Drogheda) 2 pike 7-14
5th Pat Sheenan (kingscourt) 1 pike 6-13
Big Pat with pike 6-13

Paul Dennis, Gerry Keenan, Denis Coyne, Pat Sheenan, Sam Lawlow. Karin Lynch who helped bring out all the sandwiches

I imagine from John's report that things are still iced up all around the Cavan area. Anyone pass any lakes that were ice free or is it still like a scene from Ice Age?
